Recently, Carla Ellerman, Community Relations Director at Edencrest at Pleasant Hill, and Susan Miller, Sales Specialist for Highmark Senior Living, sat down to talk about what makes Edencrest stand out in the Des Moines metro, the importance of Senior Living, and how Edencrest is providing a new and fresh solution for seniors.
Making plans for your next step in life doesn’t mean stopping life as we know it. In this episode, our resident gal pals, Susan and Carla, will have you laughing and thinking twice about senior care at Edencrest. With 9 locally owned and operated communities, there’s no shortage of community events, friendship and care at their communities throughout the Greater Des Moines metro and suburbs.
Part of our vision at Edencrest is to create meaningful connections within our vibrant communities. “Chances are, no matter what your life experiences have been, there is someone in this community that has experienced that. I can be very understanding, but I cannot relate to a woman who’s lost her spouse of 65 years because I haven’t experienced that. But Maryann down, three doors down may have.
When I was in Dubuque, I had two ladies move in. Within two weeks of one another, they had lost their husbands within two weeks of one another. And no kidding – day three I saw these two ladies walk down the hall holding hands. So, I ran up real quick and I said to you two know each other? They were neighbors 40 years ago.” – Carla Ellerman says about building friendships and community in senior living.
One of our values at Edencrest is to Have Fun – by fostering an environment that is joyful and uplifting, where everyone is encouraged to engage, have fun, and create positive experiences together. “I really love our activity programs. And I’ve been in multipleEdencrest communities, and they’re pretty fantastic. I love the outings. I love that age is not a barrier in our communities. We’ll take a bus load of 15 people to the casino for four hours, and it’s fantastic. And it doesn’t matter if they have a walker or a wheelchair because we have our vans for transportation.” – Carla Ellerman says about Life Enrichment at Edencrest.
Susan and Carla break down how to choose a Senior Living community that is best for you and your loved ones, how it works to Age in Place (spoiler – stay in your chosen apartment forever!), and what life at Edencrest looks like local management and ownership with Highmark Senior Living and Hubbell Realty Company based right here in Central Iowa. “, I feel one thing that sets us aside is we here are residents. We hear them, and we hear them through suggestion boxes. We hear them through monthly meetings. We’ll have a food service meeting. We’ll have a meeting about activities. We have all these committees to hear what our residents want in their home.” – Carla Ellerman. Don’t miss this episode full of information about Senior Living and the future of Edencrest!
